What is the GDPR?

What is the GDPR and why all that buzz around?

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) defines rules related to the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data.

The regulation became effective on May 24th 2016 and is applicable throughout the European Union (EU), thereby harmonizing data protection law throughout the EU. For the implementation of the GDPR, the authorities conceded a transition period.

Starting May 25th 2018, the GDPR is mandatory to its full extent.

If you offer your application to other customers, you will most probably need to provide a leaflet informing your customers about what kind of user related data you store and how you protect it.
