Manage your namespace

In order to separate entities of different solutions from each other, each thing and policy is created with a namespace. This namespace is a prefix of the ID of the specific entity.

note In case you have booked a Free or Starter plan, you can use only one namespace.
In such a case, all your identifiers for things, policies etc. will carry the same namespace.
To upgrade a Free or Starter service instance to the Standard service plan please contact us. In case you have access to the Bosch IoT Cloud and prefer to use the self-service find tips at the FAQ section How to change my service plan?

Create a namespace

In case you have booked a Standard plan, you can reserve up to 10 namespaces for your solution and define a default namespace.
The Things service makes sure that the namespace is not already reserved by another solution.

Example: Create Namespace

tip For package subscriptions, e.g. Bosch IoT Suite for Asset Communication and Bosch IoT Suite for Device Management, the user interface to manage namespaces as well as the search index settings per namespace are now available directly in Bosch IoT Suite Console.
The stand-alone Things UI remains available for customers who have booked their instance on the Bosch IoT Cloud.

Set a namespace to be the default for your things

In case you have only one namespace, this will also be your default.

In case you have multiple namespaces you can select the one which should be the default.

The default is applied for example when provisioning via Developer Console, or in case of a POST thing request, where you dont set a thing ID. The Things service will create a unique things ID prefixed with your default namespace.

Managing the search index of a namespace

For namespaces which already exist at the time that we introduce the possibility to edit a search index, all indexable fields are applied.

For new namespaces, the user interface will guide your to make a selection. In case of doubt, choose “default” and change it later, e.g. when your business solution decides which fields are used in their search requests.

See more at Manage the search index of a namespace

Deleting a namespace

Since Dec 2018, deletion of a namespace includes the full deletion of all entities within this namespace, such as things and policies.

note Deleting the entities will erase them from our data store without an option to restore.

The deletion of a namespace via this UI will require a second confirmation by the user. Then, it triggers the full deletion of all entities within this namespace.

The progress bar displays an estimation on how long the procedure might need.

To check for all namespaces related to your solution programmatically see the HTTP API > Solutions resources.
