In particular, LwM2M refers to the standard defined by Open Mobile Alliance which is designed especially for the management of resource-constrained devices, usually in low-power, constrained networks.

Unlike other protocols which run on top of HTTP, LwM2M utilizes the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP), which is a simplified, lighter version of HTTP, specially designed for IoT.
