Once you have registered a number of devices, you can create device groups in order to facilitate the device search process and to use them in defining the scope of mass management operations. There are three types of device groups in Bosch IoT Manager, available via the Grouping view of the Device Management perspective. These are directory groups (Directories), tag groups (Tags) and filter groups (Filters). You can switch between the three grouping types by selecting the relevant type from the combobox:
By using the Directories view, you can organize devices/gateways hierarchically according to various criteria - location, type of device, organization group, etc. This tree-like structure brings the following advantages:
You can define management tasks over a whole set of devices that are forming a separate branch.
You can locate a particular device much easier.
You can view only the directories you are interested in.
Directories can be controlled via the Directory Actions.
To create a new directory:
Click Create Directory.
In the dialogue that opens, enter a unique directory Name and an ID that follows the pattern <namespace>:<ID>. If an ID is not entered, the system will assign one automatically.
Click OK. The newly created filter will appear in the directories tree as part of the Grouping view.
Directories can be removed via the next Delete Directory button - .
The /ROOT (Devices) directory cannot be moved or deleted.
A directory can be moved from one directory to another via the corresponding button. To do so:
Click Move Directory
The dialogue that opens shows the current position of the directory at the top:
Select the directory where you want it to be moved and click OK.
The Directory Info section includes specific directory information like Directory Name, ID and Path, as well as the Attributes assigned to this directory. Directory attributes are handled in the same manner as device attributes.
Attach a device to a directory
You can easily attach a device to a directory via the Attach button within the Device/Gateway Info view.
Select an already existing directory and click OK. The Path field in your Device/Gateway Info will show the directory where the device has been placed.
Once a device has been placed in a directory, the button Attach will change to Move Device and through it you can move the device to another directory.
View all devices in a directory
When in the Directories view, expanding a directory will only show its inner directories, if any:
To view the included devices, click a particular directory. Once done, the right side of the Dashboard will be populated with the list of devices contained in this directory, as well as with general information about the directory - shown in the Directory Info section. А device can belong to only one directory, as it represents its location with regard to the /ROOT (Devices) directory.
Tags are very useful when you have to group devices according to various criteria and find them later on. Unlike directories, a device can belong to multiple tag groups, i.e. can have multiple tags attached to it.
When you select a particular tag from the list of already created tags, the right side of the screen will be populated with a list of the devices belonging to this tag group (similar to the directories example above). The Tag Info panel includes specific Tag Group information like name and ID, as well as the attributes assigned to this tag.
To create a new tag group:
Click the Create Tag button in the Tags view of the combobox.
In the dialogue that opens, enter a unique Name for this tag, which is a required field.
Optionally, enter an ID following the pattern <namespace>:<ID>. If you do not enter a tag ID, the system will assign one automatically .
Click OK. Upon that, the newly created tag group will appear on the list of tags as part of the Grouping view.
To rename or delete a tag use the corresponding buttons under Tag Actions:
Tag attributes are handled in the same manner as directory attributes.
Tag a device
To attach a tag to a device, use the Tag Device button within the Device/Gateway Info view.
Filters are dynamic groups whose members are devices/gateways satisfying the defined condition.
When in the Filters view of the combobox, you will see a list of all already created filters.
To create a new filter:
Click Create Filter. In the dialogue that opens:
Enter a unique Name for this filter.
In the Query field, enter an RQL expression which will be applied as a filter on the connected devices .
Optionally, enter an ID observing the format <namespace>:<ID>. If you do not enter one, the system will assign such automatically.
Click OK. The newly created filter will appear on the list of filters in the Grouping view and also in the combobox of the Devices and Gateways views, as described in List and filter devices from where you can apply it.
